This plank surfboard is an example of a California-made board that took advantage of new waterproof glues and balsa wood interlay to lighten the otherwise heavy redwood blank (surfboard core). The board was made before the advent of skegs (fins); however, the surfer who owned this board added a small skeg at a later time.
